About the Women in Sport Congress 2024 (WISC2024)

The Women in Sport Congress 2024 (WISC2024) welcomes you to Sydney, for our second biennial event. WISC2024 will be held at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, right on Sydney Harbour, with views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

The inaugural WISC, was a collaboration between the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Female Performance & Health Initiative (FPHI) and La Trobe University and was held at the MCG in Melbourne in August 2022. WISC22 brought together people interested in improving the health and performance of women and girls in sport and exercise. Over 300 participants heard from world leading experts in the areas of leadership, first nations perspectives, injury and illness, performance and health, data and para-athletes. There were also social events, networking and workshop opportunities, that helped to grow connections both within Australia and abroad. The Keynote speaker was Dr Kate Ackerman from the Boston Children’s Hospital. Athlete, coaching and clinician panels helped to tell the lived experience of those training, competing and working with athletes on a daily basis.

WISC2024 aims to build on the momentum started in 2022, by bringing together world-leading researchers, clinicians, practitioners, coaches and athletes working in sport, with a particular focus on high-performance and the pathways travelled to get there and beyond. Five Australian Universities have partnered with the AIS FPHI to deliver five half-day research themes, featuring invited speakers, free papers, posters, panels and debates. Speakers and presenters will cover a wide range of topics covering the unique physiology of female athletes, leadership and performance, nutrition, recovery, physiology, intersectionality, the multidisciplinary team, translation of research into practice and coaching perspectives. Delegates will present, discuss, and debate best practice interventions, care, policy and technology to produce optimal performance and health outcomes for female athletes. WISC2024 will be available in person and virtually for the first time.

For those attending in person, WISC2024 again includes not to be missed social and cultural events including Welcome to Country, welcome drinks, event gala dinner to be held on International Women’s Day, networking over meal breaks and browsing posters, as well as interacting with our event exhibitors and sponsors.
